The goal of PALS is to work with parents and caregivers in supporting children's early literacy development.

The activities and strategies and resources which comprise PALS are all designed to help parents and caregivers help children's language, literacy and numeracy development.

Other outcomes that result from parents' and caregivers' participation in PALS include
Enhanced self esteem on the part of parents and caregivers.
Greater awareness of children's social, emotional and cognitive development.
An increased awareness on the part of parents and caregivers of the roles of literacy in their own lives.
Greater awareness on the part of parents of their roles as parents.
Enhancement of parents'/caregivers' own literacy development.
Easier transition for children to school.
Greater communication and understanding between parents and teachers.
