Bloom with Bloom's
or
Information Literacy and Bloom's Taxonomy
Questions and Answers

Q:  What is Bloom's Taxonomy and why would I want to  use it in my teaching?

A:  We want our students to become information literate - to successfully find, use and evaluate information.  When a teacher assigned a research assignment in the past, the more the student handed in, the more work they must have done to find the information and hence, they received a better mark.  Today, a student can cut-and-paste many, many pages in ten-minutes off the Internet!! We need to design our learning objectives now so that students are not simply regurgitating information, but thinking about it and making it their own.  How do we do this?  One way is to focus our learning outcomes and questions on higher levels of thinking.  Bloom has indentified six main ways of thinking about information.  Knowledge is the simplest  level of thinking.  We want to focus on the higher levels to ensure our students become thinkers, problem-solvers and educated citizens of tomorrow.
